This is how to configure a CernVM image to run as a squid server. Refer also to ConfigureCernVM.

cache_mem (?) MB

maximum_object_size_in_memory 128 KB

cache_dir ufs /var/spool/squid (?) 16 256  # Or somewhere else?
maximum_object_size 1048576 KB
